  • Exact Search?

I am making a search page for a company that has litteraly thousands of documents (.pdf, .tiff, .max). The docs are on a secure server, and I have linked the website, which is on a seperate server, to those docs via "virtual folder". I have used zoom to index the "virtual folder" and not the physicall file containg all the docs. The search engine works fine, but...since I am using the virtual folder, the docs are listed as a directory. When I index the the "directory" I can search for files, but I HAVE to use the wild card everytime in front of or after entering my search terms, or I can just type the EXACT file name and its extension.

    1. I am trying to make this search easy to use for the sales reps to find docs

    2. The results display the file paths of the directory leading to the document (I dont want this) I want only the documents found.

What am I doing, if anything, wrong?

Are you using Offline mode or Spider mode?

In Offline mode, you can specify the base URL to be anything you want and this allows you to have a link path which is different to the real path (so you could be indexing from "http://webserver/virtual_folder/" but have a base URL path of "http://secureserver/docs/"). If you are indexing other folders beside this one on the web server, then you may need to create a separate start point for this virtual folder so that it can have a different base URL than the others.

If you are still confused, it would help if you can provide us with more specific examples as to the actual filepath/URL you are starting indexing from, the base URL you are using, etc.

In spider mode, the result URL is always the same as the file indexed. The only way to change this would be to do a search and replace of the URLs in the zoom_pages.zdat file after indexing.

Thank you! Working perfectly now and lightnig fast as well.

One more question though. Once I set a schedule for this to index nightly, can I specify "only to index one (1) folder" and have it still keep all the other folders indexed? Or will it overwrite the previous indexes? Just trying to save a little time.

What you are asking for is known as "incremental indexing", that is, only performing a partial index for new or updated files without having to re-index the entire site.

This is not currently available in V4. However, it will be in the upcoming V5 release (which is currently in beta). More information about incremental indexing in V5 can be found here:

Outstanding! I am going to try the BETA version this week. Is the upgrade free of cost for PRO users or do I need to pay more when the final version is released?

It is a free upgrade for users who purchased V4.2 in the 6 months prior to the final release of V5.0. The upgrade policy is explained here in more detail:
